Welcome to 1994!
Im sure everyone remembers this cover. Markovich kickflipping c-bad.
Plus he adds his own artistic skills on the cover.
Switch stance photos. Ben Horton, switch 360 flip.
He’s now at Black Box running the creative direction including Slave.
Laban with a roof ollie from his interview.
Kind of a weird interview or rather just 4 pages of Lotti photos.
Still dope regardless. The banana suit is hard to forget.
and the huge jeans!
215. i think thats stevie sitting inside the “L”.
Oyola on the opposite page. BS 180 nose grind.
Stevie, Rasool and Matt Reason.
Aight, this is probably my favorite Cardiel photo. For some reason this photo stands out, and all it is is a simple back tail on a bench. But just his style (who else can look like that when they are doing a backside tailslide?), the colors (red shirt, tan pants, green bench look just like the colors of the board) and his body position is similar to the graphic on his board. Maybe i nerded out and looked too far into it. whatever.
also, i thought Cardiel was Salman Agah for a little while, because of the board, and that i didnt read the caption. But who really read anything at age 11?
The best stage of Steve Olson. Nerdy, switch 360 flip down 8.
I wanted that board.
Alfonzo. I thought this was a droors ad not a evol.

The coolkids side of element.
So this little feature was written by Mark Waters who’s now over at Sole Tech. It basically explains the difference between the two kinds of ledges that are next to a set of stairs. “Jibs” being ledges that run parallel with the stairs, and “Nibs” beings ledges that run parallel with the ground. A little confusing right? Well at least the snowboarders kept that one, and we [skaters] just call them all “Hubbas”.
By the way, thats drehobl in front.
Steve Berra interview. This is slightly before his part in Tentacles Of Destruction, but when that vid came out, it made me a fan of berra. He skated to Modern English, and did a lot of fakie tricks, which I soon adapted to. I steadily had half-cab flips and fakie flips, and wished to have backside flips like him.
thats not juliet lewis.
Chany at age 17. Kinda looked like Zack Morris.
So for the longest time I thought Jose Gomez, drew all the characters on this page. And it made me think that all of Twist’s shit was Jose’s, or rather i thought Twist was Jose. And that all the new deal art was done by him and not Andy Howell. I should have just read the interview, and saw that he liked andy and twist.
Gonz nose bluntin picnic tables while people were still skating curbs. And Markovich up top.
Colin just got the cover of our latest issue [January 2009]. I believe this was his last cover before the current one. Switch crooked grind, with a burning building in the background. [December 1993]
More alien graphics i used to redraw.
How hard is this shit! Onyx ads in a skate mag. BACDAFUCUP. I guess when you got Kareem backing your shit, its gotta be legit.
I just saw the San Diego premiere of Macaframa which is a fixed gear video based on riders in SF. It was held at the Ken Club. To my pleasant surprise Cardiel had a video part, with a Julien cameo. It made the video that much better.
A spread of the Jason Adams interview.
Rodney Mullen interview. Basically talking about his duties as Rocco’s right hand man, and trying manage a park full of crazy talented kids. The World Park days. Watch The Man Who Souled The World and it will explain everything about skateboarding.
Jeremy Wray, another huge inspiration both on and off the board.
Child prodigy 1.
Child prodigy 2.
Nineteen ninety mutha fuckin two. Straight from Jersey to Philly, the blunt burns on. Yo b, tell them how this shit goin’ down!
Redman’s “Whut? Thee Album” is the first CD I ever bought. Before that was just tapes.
Another installment of the pickle.
